Louise

Specialist Assessor and Level 5/7 Tutor

I have worked in Further Education for over 25 years, working in Learning Support Departments, supporting students with a diverse range of learning needs. My experience ranges from year 10 students who are completing their final years of schooling in an alternative environment, 16 – 18 year old students studying for vocational courses, adults returning to education and degree students.

In 2012 I decided it was time for a new challenge and retrained as a Specialist Dyslexia Assessor, alongside supporting students and quickly realized I love all aspects of assessing.  I am passionate about supporting people and view an assessment as an opportunity to highlight individuals’ strengths and make recommendations for support and strategies which will be beneficial in education, the workplace and daily life.

I am a member of Dyslexia Guild and am a member of PATOSS (Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties) and an Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA) for pre and post 16, including adults.

In addition to assessing for dyslexia I have undertaken additional training to enable me to identify characteristics of ADHD and DCD/Dyspraxia for post 16 learners to enable them to access support in education and employment. I am also training to be a Workplace Needs Assessor, for adults.

I am excited to join Dyslexia Herts as an assessor and Level 7 tutor.

Alongside working in education and being a dyslexia assessor I was a foster carer for over 20 years and am currently a Shared Lives Carer for an adult with Learning Difficulties.  In my spare time I can usually be found climbing, paddleboarding or with my family at our caravan in North Wales.
