Dyslexia and other specific learning differences are common. Around 1 in 7 people (more than 15% of people in the UK) are neurodivergent.  Neurodivergent individuals bring unique thinking skills and talents to teams, which can give businesses a competitive edge.

Dyslexia Herts works with other experts in the field to offer a range of tailored services that help nurture neurodiversity in the workplace.

We can provide specialist advice and support for managers, HR professionals and employees. We can provide:

We offer flexibility and can provide assessments in a way that suits you and your staff. Assessments can be either in-person or online:

If you would prefer to meet in person, we can either arrange a session for you at our centre in Berkhamsted or visit you in the workplace. We allow a three-hour appointment, including breaks.

If we are visiting you, we would need to be located in a quiet room that is free from interruption. The standard mileage rate would be charged.

After the assessment you would be offered an online meeting or a call to discuss your report, provide feedback, answer your questions and give advice.

An online assessment can be a flexible option for you if you are studying or at work. You would need to be able to access a laptop or desktop computer and be in a quiet room with good lighting and no interruptions. The assessor would arrange a brief online chat before your assessment session to introduce themselves and also ensure that there is good connectivity, and you can both hear and see each other well.

    We would advise a screening first to explore further.  Dyslexia often overlaps with other neurodivergent conditions, such as dyspraxia, or ADHD and a screening may be a first step in exploring your unique profile of strengths and challenges and help you to decide whether it would be good to go ahead with an assessment.

    A Diagnostic Assessment is the only way to really understand whether the challenges experienced are due to dyslexia and how they can be supported in the workplace. You will receive a detailed report outlining the individual’s strengths, challenges and proposed next steps. It will make tailored recommendations on how they can best be supported at work.

    To book an assessment, please complete our Workplace Employee questionnaire & Consent Form and ask the line manager to complete the Workplace Manager Questionnaire.

    A member of the team will be in touch to arrange a suitable date and time for the assessment and will be on hand to guide you and answer your questions.

    Your employee should have had an eye test recently (ideally within the last six months). If you wear glasses or use coloured overlays for reading , you should bring these with you to your appointment. If there are concerns about hearing this should also be checked before the appointment.

    Assessments will generally take place in the workplace – we would need a private room which is free from interruptions.

    We allow a three hour appointment for an assessment – the assessor will spend some time discussing your reasons for wanting an assessment and may want to know more about your job role and work environment.

    The session will involve a mixture of short tasks that will be different for each individual which will then give the assessor a clear picture of your profile and make recommendations tailored to your job role and workplace. They will also be able to make suggestions of books, websites or other resources that may be useful. At the end of the session they may arrange a short meeting with your manager so they have a clear understanding of their priorities.

    The assessor may give you some general feedback but will not be able to give you a definite decision about whether you have dyslexia on the day.

    You will receive your report within 15 working days of the assessment. This is sent to you by email, but if you need a hard copy or any adaptations, like enlarged print please let us know.

    The assessor will contact you to arrange a time for a consultation and feedback session with you and also with your manager to discuss their findings and answer any questions you may have.

    You are always welcome to book a further consultation in future.

    We can offer one to one workplace coaching sessions with employees or managers:

    • The sessions are tailored specifically to meet individual needs within their job role
    • Skills and strategies are developed drawing on the individual’s strengths
    • The sessions will help to build confidence, raise self -awareness and enable individuals to work to their potential.
