More than 15% of people in the UK are neurodivergent, meaning that the brain functions, learns and processes information differently.

All classrooms are neurodiverse with children who learn differently and who have particular strengths or challenges.

Dyslexia Herts is able to work with teaching staff and teaching assistants to provide training, support and guidance on identifying and meeting the needs of all learners in the classroom and to raise staff awareness of specific learning differences.

We offer a range of assessments:

We can provide the service that is right for you – we are happy to help with assessments at busy times of the year, assess learners with more ‘tricky’ profiles or work with your staff to manage the access arrangements process from start to finish.

This involves:

  • Consultation with relevant staff at your organisation to ensure appropriate access arrangements are in place for those who need them
  • A combination of group and individual assessments of literacy skills and relevant aspects of cognitive processing
  • Completion of an access arrangements report & JCQ Form 8
  • An assessment focusing on literacy or numeracy in order to establish the student’s current levels of performance and strengths and weaknesses in these areas and to ensure appropriate adjustments and teaching and learning strategies are in place
  • Consultation with relevant staff and students to gather background information
  • Individual assessment considering all relevant aspects of literacy or numeracy
  • Completion of specialist teacher’s report with recommendations for in class support & strategies for students/ parents
  • A full diagnostic assessment confirming specific learning difference
  • Detailed consultation with parents and relevant staff to gather background information
  • Assessments of literacy, numeracy (where appropriate), cognitive processing and verbal and non-verbal reasoning in order to establish possible specific learning difference
  • Recommendations for appropriate adjustments, teaching and learning strategies, additional support, assistive technology and for future work/ further or higher education
  • Feedback meeting on completion of report to advise teachers and parents
  • JCQ Form 8 if required (secondary pupils )

This assessment would meet the requirements for DSA applications for University

We offer a specialist service for schools, colleges, universities and apprenticeship and training providers which will provide you with expert support from our specialist assessors. They are all current practitioners with up to date knowledge who are accredited through the professional association, PATOSS and have the Assessor Practising Certificate (APC) and a current DBS.

Assessment, Training and Support Service

This offers schools and colleges a package of specialist support that can be chosen to meet your particular needs.

Through this service, we can provide a range of services which you can access:

  • Consultancy services
  • Training for staff teams
  • Diagnostic Assessments
  • Literacy or Numeracy Assessments
  • Assessments for Exam Access Arrangements (inc. completion of Form 8)
  • Online/phone support

Payment can then be spread across the academic year.

We are able to work with schools, colleges, universities and education and training providers and provide advice and guidance on how best to ensure an inclusive l environment where all learners can flourish.

We can offer a bespoke service to meet your individual needs. This could include:

  • reviewing systems and processes for exam access arrangements to ensure a whole organisation approach
  • ensuring guidance and training is provided for teachers on identification of specific learning difficulties and suitable teaching approaches, resources and interventions
  • working with you develop training for staff teams

We also offer the Level 7 Diploma in Teaching and Assessing Learners with Dyslexia, Specific Learning Differences and Barriers to Literacy.
